The 130 ladies from Missouri and Kansas who played NCAA basketball come from every type of high school. Small and large. Urban, suburban, and rural. Public and private. And they arrived at colleges, big and small. Public and private. And all over the country. A freshman, Cady Pauley, from Milan (student pop. 162 recorded 95 points, 63 rebounds, and 79 assists at the Univ. of Virginia. Brooke Flowers was absolutely dominant in the Atlantic-10 Conference. The Barstow School produced three ladies who ranked high in conference steals, all from the same class. Jaelyn Glenn (Kansas State) was 1st in the Big 12 Conference, Brylee Glenn (Kansas State) was 10th in the Big 12, and Kiyley Flowers was 1st in the Ohio Valley Conference and 10th in the nation.
Hayley Frank (Strafford/Missouri) was Academic All-District, but also found time to rank in the top four of the Southeastern Conference in free throw and 3 PT shooting percentage. Emily Ryan placed in the top five in three conference statistical categories, plus 9th in the nation in assists per game. Taylor Robertson (McPherson/Oklahoma) is the all time Big 12 leader in made threes, and now has the longest consecutive free throw makes in conference history. Alecia Westbrook (Park Hill/Texas A & M-Corpus Christi) was her conference’s Player of the Year.
I want to note that Emily Ryan would have led the Big 12 and would have been 2nd nationally in free throw percentage if she had just a few more attempts to qualify. She was so far out in front in her conference that she could have missed those four additional free throws and would have still been in first.
And a conundrum. Re’Shawna Stone (Waynesville/Univ of Buffalo) finished high in five statistical categories in the Mid-American Conference. Second in minutes per game, 4th in points per game, 4th in 3 PT percentage, 5th in field goal percentage, and 5th in assists per game. She scored with superior shooting, dished the ball to teammates, and her coach wanted her on the floor all the time. My question - How was she only Second Team All-Conference. Obviously, I didn’t get to vote.
You will note on the attached spreadsheet one lady who is listed as playing for two different universities. Not a typo. But rather, evidence of life with the transfer portal. Mid-Season life in the transfer portal era, that is. Regardless of what you think of the transfer portal (I am in favor) this demonstrates why you need to subscribe to this free newsletter. It is difficult to find your favorite player if they move. Please subscribe
And the future is bright with four ladies named to their conference’s All-Freshmen Team.
For academic awards, I use those awarded by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). The All-American teams were chosen by the Women Basketball Coaches Association. The conference honors and statistics and the national statistics were provided by the respective conferences and the NCAA. I listed those in the top five in their conference and the top ten nationally. The comprehensive spreadsheet covering all 130 players that is attached at the end of this article contains data provided by each school.
