What is Playing On Sports?
Playing On Sports covers the graduates of 1,000 high schools located in Kansas and Missouri who compete in 11 sports in any of the 1,100 NCAA Division I, II, or III colleges and universities.
Our best athletes go on to play the sport they love in college. It is impossible to keep track of them because our lives are busy. And then there is the Transfer Portal. Contact is lost. Until now. Playing on Sports is the only publication that delivers so much information on so many athletes as they compete at the next level. No longer are they “Out of sight, out of mind”.
Every athlete is identified by their name, sport, position, class, high school, college, and collegiate conference.

A Mid-Season Look at NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball
As I have noted before, Missouri and Kansas produce fewer NCAA Division III athletes than those who compete in the other two divisions. That isn’t due to a smaller number of schools in the division. There are more DIII schools than either DI or DII. But, just not in Missouri and Kansas There are only four, with none in Kansas, and only one West of St. Louis. That doesn’t keep our athletes from competing at the highest DIII levels throughout the country. They populate rosters from California to New England, and throughout the South and Midwest.
You are making an impact when you lead the No. 1 team in the country in both scoring and blocked shots. That is what Natalie Bruns (Kirkwood/New York University) is doing. NYU has a long, storied Women’s Basketball program. They have a lot of all-time greats. Natalie is one of them as she has just become the Violet’s all time shot blocker with 185 blocks. And she has done that despite her freshman year being lost to Covid. She is also closing in on 1,000 career points. Natalie ranks high on this list of local athletes. She is 5th in Rebounds, 2nd in Assist/Turnover Ratio, and 1st in both Field Goal Percentage and Blocked Shots. She also is tied for first in Assists. Whew!
Yes, Natalie Bruns is all over these leaderboards as a senior. Who is she tied with for the most assists? A freshman. Not only is Catherine Goodwin (St. Thomas Aquinas/Washington Univ.-St. Louis) tied with Natalie with 61 assists, she is also 5th with her Assist/Turnover Ratio. Whether a senior or a freshman, these Midwest ladies dole out the assists. And they do so with few turnovers.
As a junior, Annette Ramirez (Sarcoxie/Westminster College-MO) is putting up big numbers. She is in the Top Five on six of the ten leaderboards. She is tops in Points/Game, 2nd in Minutes/Game, 3rd in Assists, 4th in Steals and Assist/Turnover Ratio, and 5th in Free Throw Percentage. She has surpassed the 1,200 Point career mark with over a season left in her career.
The 17.6 Points per Game Peyton Starks (John Burroughs/Macalester College) is scoring is the 2nd among the athletes on this list. She is also 1st in Free Throw Percentage and 3rd in Minutes/Game. The junior just surpassed the 1,000 point career mark and might eclipse 500 career rebounds yet in her third year.
Red Shirt years are available in Division III, although they are less common than in the other divisions. The same is true for extending a career with the extra season awarded to those who were on a roster in the Covid year. But just like Natalie Bruns, noted above, Claudia Cooke (Parkway Central/Kenyon College) missed her freshman year due to the pandemic. While in her senior year, she leads this group in Rebounds, is 2nd in Blocks, and 5th in Points/Game. But in just her third year on the court, she has surpassed 500 career rebounds. She could be in Kenyon’s career Top Ten as soon as later this week.
If you were a twin, wouldn’t it be really cool for to both score 1,000 career points in high school? And wouldn’t it be even cooler to occupy spots on the same college roster as freshmen? That is currently the lives of Kate and Annie Restovich. They both crested the 1,000 career point mark at Visitation Academy. As freshmen at St. Mary’s College-IN they are No. 1 and 2 on their team in Minutes per Game. They also are scoring nearly nine points per contest, which puts them on the long trek to both becoming 1,000 career point scorers together, once again.
Those are a few of the highlights. There are many more below and on the attached spreadsheet.
