NCAA Division II WBB - Youth Dominates
The best performances are often produced by the older, more experienced players. There are high performing veterans in this group. But, also take a look at the youth. They fill many of the top spots.
What is Playing On Sports?
Playing On Sports covers the graduates of 1,000 high schools located in Kansas and Missouri who compete in 11 sports in any of the 1,100 NCAA Division I, II, or III colleges and universities.
Our best athletes go on to play the sport they love in college. It is impossible to keep track of them because our lives are busy. And then there is the Transfer Portal. Contact is lost. Until now. Playing on Sports is the only publication that delivers so much information on so many athletes as they compete at the next level. No longer are they “Out of sight, out of mind”.
Every athlete is identified by their name, sport, position, class, high school, college, and collegiate conference.

NCAA Division II WBB
These ladies are really good at playing basketball. When I sat down to write this portion of this article, that is what blurted out of my fingers onto the screen. I note two themes contained in this information.
One theme is the breadth one player can provide. The lists below are the “Top Fives” of ten of the 25 statistics contained in the attached spreadsheet. One athlete is on five of those ten Top Fives. And she is a sophomore.
The other theme is the predominance of underclassmen. That is unusual with this being the last year when an athlete can take advantage of their “covid” year and extend their careers. That makes for a lot of athletes playing beyond their senior year. Despite more experienced seniors and graduate students than normal, these “Top Five” lists are dominated by underclassmen. Due to occasional ties for 5th place, there are 56 slots on these lists. As noted above, some occupy more than one slot. The breakdown by class is:
Freshmen - 2
Freshmen-RS - 0
Sophomores - 19
Sophomore-RS - 0
Juniors - 17
Junior-RS - 6
Seniors - 7
Senior-RS - 0
Graduate Students - 5
The athlete who occupies a space on five of the ten “Top Fives” is Ashlyn Alloway (Olathe North/Lincoln University-MO). As a sophomore, Ashlyn ranks highly in Mins/Game, Points/Game, Rebound/Game, Turnover/Steal Ratio, and Field Goal Percentage. That describes a complete player.
Headlining the youth movement of these athletes is Macie Mays (El Dorado Springs/Pittsburg State). Macie easily leads in FG shooting, connecting on 47 of 72 attempts, or 65.3%. She would qualify to be 3rd in the country if she had a few more attempts. Macie is also over 50% with 3’s, draining 9 of 17 shots from beyond the arc. The El Dorado Springs gyms have been busy. A fellow former Bulldog, Reese Schaaf (El Dorado Springs/Drury Univ.) is 5th on the list having made 54.7% of her shots from the field. Please note that Reese is a sophomore. A junior, Karenna Gerber (Halstead/Pittsburg State) is 2nd on this list in FG percentage, and 9th in the country at 60.8%
It should be noted that all five of the top 3PT shooters exceed 41.8%. Gabi Giovannetti (Bishop Miege/Washburn) leads them all at 48.1%. All six of the top rebounders are underclassmen, led by Yiibara Nwidadah (Olathe North/Washburn Univ.) with 9.9 boards per game. Likewise, all five of the top scorers are underclassmen. Brooke Littrell (Green City/Univ. of Central Missouri) is dropping in 19.5 points per game as a redshirt junior.
Johnni Gonzalez (Bishop Miege/Missouri Western State) leads with an Assist/Turnover Ratio of 2.6. When teammates bestow a player with a nickname, it is out of respect. It is part of the camaraderie that is peculiar to athletics. That is why I smile when I tell you that Kendrick “Bug” Bailey (Hollister/Harding University) has one of the highest Assist/Turnover Ratios in this group. Being called “Bug” is an honor when you have earned it as Kendrick has.
Those are just a few of the highest highlights. Below are the “Top Five’s”. And then there is The Spreadsheet at the bottom with all 25 stats for each athlete.
