At the bottom of this article are links to spreadsheets containing 22 offensive statistics and 26 pitching statistics on all 485 Missouri and Kansas men who competed in NCAA Division II Baseball.
With 485 athletes, one would expect them to come from all over the two state area. And they do. Cities. The Suburbs. Rural areas. They come from big schools and small schools. There are 15 playing NCAA DII Baseball from Liberty High and 14 from Lee’s Summit West. And Blue Valley Southwest has 8 grads Playing On into DII Baseball who are playing at 8 different colleges.
Certainly, there are many who stayed close to home at the many very competitive DII programs in these two state. But some ventured afar. Like to Flagler College in Florida and Barton College in the Carolinas Conference. And an infielder made his way from Wamego, Kansas to play his college ball at Hawaii Pacific University.
Each of the 64 athletes highlighted achieved one or more of the selected criteria listed below. These athletes placed in the Top 5 of a conference statistic 87 times, being No. 1 23 of those times. Nine times these local athletes show up in the NCAA DII Top Ten. And 45 players were named to an all-conference team, with two of them being named to the all-America team. These athletes also frequented the academic all-district teams.
A sampling shows:
Alex Epp (Maize South/William Jewell College) can hit the ball. His .435 Batting Average led the Great Lakes Valley Conference and was the 10th best in Division II. He was even better with his .561 On Base Percentage. With that, he ranked 1st in his conference and 4th nationally. He also knows why you are in school. He was named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). You don’t want to take my word for it? Then how about that of ESPN’s Holly Rowe?
Ryan Carmack (New Covenant Academy/Univ. of Ill-Springfield) was a force on the mound for the Prairie Stars. His Opposing Batting Average of .208 was the 2nd best in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. His 109 strikeouts was the third most. For that, he was named First Team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference.
JD McReynolds (Sullivan/Univ. of Central Missouri) was dominate this year. The sophomore RHP was named First Team All-MidAmerica Intercollegiate Athletic Association, First Team ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region, and Second Team ABCA/Rawlings All-American. And JD has half of his eligibility left!
For as well as the others hit for percentage or kept the opposition from hitting, Matt Miller (Aurora/Missouri Southern State) provided the power needed to drive in runs. Matt’s 25 home runs was the best in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAA) and 3rd in the NCAA. Those home runs helped to drive in a conference leading 80 runs, which was the 4th most nationally. His 172 Total Bases was the most in the MIAA and 5th in the country. Matt was named Third Team ABCA/Rawlings All-American.
Fleet footed Aiden Proctor (Manhattan/Univ. of Central Oklahoma) stole 34 bases, the most in the MIAA. That helped earn the junior Third Team All-MidAmerica Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors.
Sophomore TJ Racherbaumer (Hermann/Emporia State) had the MIAA’s highest caught stealing percentage, leading him to gun down 24 runners. TJ’s classroom work also earned him CSC Academic All-District honors.
Showing that speed can go will with academics is Alex Rice (Shawnee Mission Northwest/Southwest Oklahoma State Univ.) His 27 steals was the most in the Great American Conference. Those extra bases helped Alex score 60 times, the third most in the conference. He also was named CSC Academic All-District.
Zac Shoemaker (Aurora/Pittsburg State Univ.) led the MIAA with a 6.56 Strikeout to Walk Ratio. That was also the 6th best in all of Division II. He fanned batters 105 times, the third most in his conference. All of that was good for First Team All-MidAmerica Intercollegiate Athletic Association selection.
Did I list all of the best performances? No, I did not. Keep scrolling and you will see all of these men and their remarkable achievements.
