This series will cover in detail NCAA Division I, II, and III Softball and Baseball through the lens of Missourians and Kansans. The larger segments are yet to come. If you missed the first part covering 64 local DI Softball athletes, you can access it here. And you can find the second part covering 21 local DIII Baseball athletes here. And this is how you get your free subscription:
At the bottom are links to spreadsheets containing 22 offensive statistics and 26 pitching statistics on all 81 Missouri and Kansas women who competed in Division III Softball. The numbers from these two states are smaller in DIII than the other two divisions largely because of geographics. While there are more DIII schools nationwide than either DI and DII, there are only four of those schools in this two state region.
Our local talent found roster spots at all four of the instate DIII schools. At Webster University, Westminster College, Fontbonne University, and Washington Univ-St. Louis. But, others ventured further away to find the right dugout for themselves. Schools like Aurora University and Lake Forest College in the Chicago area. And to the upper Atlantic coast at Swarthmore College and the Coast Guard Academy. They left small high schools like Lone Jack, Tipton, and South Callaway, all of which are in Missouri. They also came from large, metropolitan schools such as Incarnate Word Academy, Olathe North, and Fort Zumwalt South.
These ladies may be fewer in number than those in the other divisions but there is a conference player of the year and a pitcher of the year. It was 16 times these ladies were awarded spots on their all-conference teams. And they placed in the top five of a conference or NCAA statistical category almost 50 times.
No one is expected to do it all. But. Kaley Adzick (Lafayette-Wildwood/Webster University) was among her conference’s best whether at the pitching rubber or in the batters box. Her .419 Batting Average was the 3rd best in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). Her 9 wins was the 4th best. And she caught 4 trying to steal a base. All of that makes us look forward to her sophomore year.
As only a sophomore, Mia Boyd (Incarnate Word Academy/Greenville University) established herself at the top of the SLIAC. She led the conference in Batting Average, Home Runs, Slugging Percentage, and On Base Percentage. That sounds like the conference Player of the Year to me. The SLIAC agreed.
To be the SLIAC Pitcher of the Year, you need to be No. 1 in Innings pitched, Strikeouts, and both Wins and Saves. To make sure, you should also have the conference’s second lowest ERA. Alison Klaus (Fort Zumwalt West/Greenville University) did just that.
Annie Schimpf (Cor Jesu Academy/Illinois College) showed us how to maintain balance throughout a collegiate athletic career. In her senior year, the infielder was named to both the All-Midwest Conference First Team, and the CSC Academic All-District Team. That is how it is supposed to be.
Keep scrolling and you will see those four and all of the rest, along with their remarkable achievements.
