Area Athletes are a Big Hit in NCAA DI Baseball
There are 117 Missouri and Kansas graduates competing in DI baseball. They hit for average. They hit the long ball. They steal, even when you are looking. Take a look at these baseball players.

The local baseball players who get it done at the plate come from all over this two state area. But there are concentrations from where they originate, at least more so than the other positions and sports I have covered. The Blue Valley School District has 14 graduates who are non-pitchers at the DI level. Blue Valley leads the way with 5. St. Thomas Aquinas also has 5 while Westminster Christian Academy has 4. Let’s take a look at all of them. These numbers are as of Monday, April 24. Unless otherwise noted, I will be concentrating on those with 75 or more at bats. 50 of the 117 meet that criterion. Of those 50, 21 are hitting .300 or better. Tyler Halstead (Riley County High/Campbell Univ.) leads the way at .374. Tyler gets on base 48.3% of the time, and when he has, he successfully stole a base 27 out of 31 attempts. What freshman is hitting well? Zach Stewart (Lebanon/Missouri State) has 51 hits in 154 at bats, an excellent .331 batting average. And leading the Big Green of Dartmouth in batting is Elliot Krewson of Parkway West at .331.
The hit leader is Brendan Ryan (St. Thomas Aquinas/Tex. A&M-Corpus Christi) with 59 hits, including 22 for more than one base. Close behind are Spencer Nivens (Rock Bridge/Missouri State) and Patrick Clohisy (Chaminade/St. Louis Univ.) with 58 hits each. Patrick is also 17 of 18 stolen base attempts.
Hitting for power is Brennan Orf (Westminster Christian Acad.)Southern Illinois-Edwardsville). His 14 home runs helps him have the most total baes with 105 and the highest slugging percentage with .761. That, combined with his .348 batting average has gotten around, as he also leads with having been walked 37 times.
Nick Goodwin (St. Thomas Aquinas/Kansas State) leads the area grads with 45 RBI. Going along with that production is his 11 steals in 13 attempts.
Also stealing bases is Tyler Wilmsmeyer (Glendale/Missouri) stealing 18 of 21 attempts. The most successful steals without being thrown out? That would be Carsen Pracht (Bishop Carroll/George Mason) who is 14 of 14 on the base paths.
All the numbers for these 117 men are detailed on the spreadsheet attached below. In addition to bio information for each athlete, there are 22 statistics to review. They are listed by the most at bats. I will also be providing this information for DII and DIII pitching and batting. Additionally, I will be similarly covering those competing in softball.
