The Area Men Competing in NCAA Division III Basketball-The Names and Numbers
There are 96 MO and KS graduates competing in DIII MBB. Fewer than the other divisions, no doubt because most DIII schools are further away. But they find their way to California, NY, and Texas
The top scorers so far this year have taken different routes. Travis Lien (Kirkwood/Franciscan Univ. of Steubenville) made his way to Ohio to lead his team with 19.7 points/game. That is also second in his conference. However, Jaxon Althaus (Oak Grove/Westminster MO) stayed in state to lead his Blue Jays with 17.0 points/game, which is third in his conference. They chose different time zones, but they have something in common with each other and other top scorers. They both shoot over 82% from the line. In fact, three of the top scorers from this area top 82%. I hope all young players understand that, and get motivation to get in the gym. Travis and Jaxon, and their teams, are reaping the benefits of hours and hours of work.
As a sophomore, Karl Moore, Jr. (Jennings/Webster Univ.) controls the paint and the glass. Karl is the top rebounder from this area, and he is second in his conference in rebounds/game. He also leads his conference in blocks/game. Travis Lien not only scores for Franciscan as noted above, he is also third in his conference in blocks/game.
Demarcus Bond (St. Louis Univ. High/Millikin Univ.) has an impressive 3.41 assists/game. Thats goes well with his 43% shooting on treys and 79% from the charity stripe.
Proving he is good with his hands whether he is shooting or passing is Jake Kampf (Barat Academy/Principia College). Jake leads his conference with three point shooting percentage and is third with his Assist to Turnover Ratio of 2.21.
