Outperforming on the Biggest Collegiate Stage
There are 129 area grads competing in NCAA DI WBB. And they are putting up impressive numbers. Take a look.
The 129 Missouri and Kansas grads are playing all over the country at 71 colleges and universities in 23 conferences. Some prefer the sun of Hawaii, California, or Florida. Some prefer the chilly air of Upstate New York or Wisconsin. But all of them let their play on the court speak for themselves. There are five from Incarnate Word Academy. That’s a DI starting five right there. Jefferson City is just behind the Red Knights with four grads playing DI WBB.
Scoring isn’t easy. It is just that some make it look that way. The leading scorer is Re’Shawna Stone (Waynesville/Univ. of Buffalo) who is 5th in the Mid-American Conference with 16.7 pointt/game. Right behind her is E’Lease Stafford (Lawrence/Missouri-Kansas City). Her 16.0 points/game is 5th best in the Summit League. There are 20 who are in double digits on the DI courts.
Some are shooting for very high percentages from the field. Rickie Woltman (Incarnate Word Academy/Purdue Univ.) is shooting 69% from the floor while Jazmaine Lewis (Center/Texas Tech) is shooting 62%. Evan Zars (Mill Valley/Grand Canyon Univ.) checks in at 58%. Evan recently surpassed both 1,000 points and rebounds for her collegiate career.
It is obvious these ladies have spent a lot of time in the gym. Just look at how they shoot free throws. Emily Ryan (Central Plains/Iowa State) leads the Big 12 with 93%, while Kierra Prim (Shawnee Mission West/Central Arkansas) leads the ASUN Conference with 88%. Emily’s Big 12 best is also the second best in all of Division I. And Hayley Frank (Strafford/Univ. of Missouri) tops the Southeastern Conference with 88%. Oh, and Taylor Robertson (McPherson/Univ. of Oklahoma) would be the leader in the Big 12 if she had just a few more attempts. However, Taylor does have the minimum number of career free throws to qualify to be the No. 1 all time free throw shooter in the Big 12. As a group, these ladies are hitting 71% of their charity shots.
Emily Ryan does much more than shoot free throws. Her 6.92 assists/game is the best in the Big 12 and 8th best nationally. Emily holds the Iowa State freshman and sophomore records for the most assists in a season. Add in her production so far as a junior and she ranks 4th all time in Cyclone history.
Kiyley Flowers (Barstow/Southeast Missouri State) is tops in steals per game with 2.61. Jaelyn Glenn (Barstow/Kansas State) is second in the Big 12 with 2.37 steal/game. And when you add in the 1.78 steals/game for Brylee Glenn (Barstow/Kansas State) you have 6.76 DI steals/game by ladies from Barstow, all three of whom graduated in 2021.
Brooke Flowers (Metro Academic & Classical/St. Louis Univ.) continues to lead her team, the Atlantic 10 Conference, and the nation with her 4.04 blocked shots/game.
As you can see, there are a lot of great seasons being built by our local ladies. You will see many more stellar performances when you browse throught the numbers for all 129 ladies found here:
