Official Scorer: "Error on the Writer"
It wasn't a throwing error. Or, a fielding error. I reported that there were 14 Missouri and Kansas high school grads selected in the 2023 MLB Draft. Upon further review, there were 15.
I thought I had identified all of the athletes who were to be included in my article. But, having had the ball go through my legs, I was left looking at my glove in an unsuccessful attempt to deflect blame.
The original article is here. And following is the addition to the list:
Braxton Bragg
Round 8, Pick 241, Pitcher, Baltimore Orioles
Liberty High School, Dallas Baptist University
Braxton showed early in his career. He was a two time First Team All-State player for Liberty High School. Perfect Game noticed and designated him as the No. 1 first baseman and No. 9 overall prospect from Missouri. Braxton spent three years as a Husker at the University of Nebraska. His first year was the Covid year which made 2021 his real freshman year. He recorded more than a strike out per inning both years in Lincoln, while being a two time Academic All-Big 10 awardee.
The former Blue Jay made a big impact this year at Dallas Baptist. No one in Conference USA had more wins. Braxton recorded 92 strikeouts while walking only 17 batters. And once again he averaged more that a strikeout per inning pitched. For all that, he was named Second Team All-Conference USA.
Who shares this spot in the draft? The Chicago Cubs selected Darrell Evans as the 241st pick of the 1965 MLB Draft. During his 22 year pro career, Evans got 2,223 hits, 414 of them being home runs. He remains one of the few to hit more than 400 home runs and not to be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Baseball coaches will tell you to learn from your errors and then move on. I hope that works for writers, too!
