NCAA Volleyball Tournament-DII after 2 Rounds
Teams fall. The numbers narrow. This area started out with 71 ladies from 53 high schools competing at 27 colleges. Here is who is left after two rounds. Six ladies from 5 high schools at 4 colleges.
Getting to the NCAA DII Volleyball Tournament is no small feat. Sticking around while each round cuts the field in half is even more difficult.
This newsletter is all about NCAA athletes who graduated from Missouri and Kansas high schools. There were 71 ladies from 53 area high schools who were competing for 27 colleges in the first round of this tournament. That narrowed to 19 ladies from 16 high schools playing at 11 colleges once that round was complete.
On this, the third day of the tournament, those remaining after two rounds will compete in the Volleyball Sweet 16. There are 6 ladies still playing aftert two rounds, from 5 high schools at 4 colleges. You can follow these matches point by point by clicking here. Just click on the highlighted match in progress. Sidney Hogan - Cor Jesu Academy - Freshman - Setter - Flagler College
Sidney is in her first year as a setter for the Saints. She has made an immediate impact as she has appeared in 27 of 29 matches. The former Charger is familiar with postseason play as she was the captain of her Cor Jesu team last year that won the Missouri Class 5 Championship.
Flagler will meet No. 25 ranked Wingate at 2:00
Maddie Hoffman - Cor Jesu Academy - Freshman - Libero - Wingate
A former Cor Jesu Charger, Maddie played in 32 of 33 matches. She was 6th on her team in digs, and 3rd in service aces.
No. 25 Wingate will meet Flagler College today at 2:00.
Kelsey Gordon - Emporia - Senior - OH - Metropolitan State Univ of Denver
Kelsey has appeared in all 32 matches and started 14 for the No. 1 ranked Roadrunners. This year, she is fourth on her team in both points and kills.
Metropolitan State was upset in their Seeet 16 match yesterday by West Texas A & M, 3 sets to 0. Kelsey recorded 4 kills and 2 digs.
Mikayla McClinton - Raytown South - Junior - MB - Metropolitan State Univ. of Denver
Mikayla appeared in all 32 matches and started 30 in this, her junior year. The former Cardinal was third for the Roadrunners with a .405 hitting percentage.
Metropolitan State was upset in their Seeet 16 match yesterday by West Texas A & M, 3 sets to 0.
Caitlin Bishop - Lansing - Freshman - Setter - Missouri-St. Louis
Caitlin started all 30 matches for Tritons. She led her team with 1,239 assists, an amazing 11.37 per set. The former Lion is familiar with the post season as she led her high school team to a Kansas 5A State Championship.
UMSL played their Sweet 16 game yesterday and defeated Ferris State, 3 to 2, to advanse to the Elite 8.
Raina Forstrom - St. James - Junior RS - RS - Missouri-St. Louis
Raina, a 6’0” right side hitter is a transfer from Missouri State. Her high school competition was as a Lady Tiger from St. James.
