NCAA Division I Volleyball-The four final teams.
Area talent propelled four teams to the quarterfinals. Two lost yesterday, with three area players keeping their National Championship dreams alive in the semifinals
Look up the definition of thrilling and you just might get a link the the 2022 NCAA DI Volleyball Quarterfinals. The top six teams in the land were competing. All eight teams are among the top ten. Competitive? Oh, my! One match ended 3 to 1. But the other three went the distance of five sets. After getting home from watching local ladies playing DI Basketball, I had the time to follow the last two sets of the Louisville/Oregon match. No. 4 Louisville came from behind to defeat No. 9 Oregon. The Ducks had multiple match points but Louisville, powered by Amaya Tillman (Shawnee Heights) and Ayden Bartlett (Leavenworth) prevailed.
Having their season end in the National Quarterfinals were:
Stanford University
Taylor Beaven - Defensive Specialist - Sophomore - Seckman
No. 5 Stanford fell to No. 3 San Diego, 3 sets to 2.
University of Wisconsin
Caroline Crawford - MB - Junior - Lansing
No. 2 Wisconsin fell to No, No. 6 Pittsburgh, 3 sets to 2.
There are three local ladies who will compete in the semifinal round of the DI tourament. They are:
University of Louisville
Ayden Bartlett - Libero - Junior - Leavenworth
Amaya Tillman - MB - Senior - Shawnee Heights
No. 4 Louisville will play No. 6 Pittsburgh on December 15 at 8:30 in a semifinal match.
University of San Diego
Gabby Blossom - Setter - Graduate Student - St. Joseph’s Academy
No. 3 San Diego will play No. 1 Texas on December 15 at 6:00 in a semifinal match.
