NCAA Division I Volleyball - A Mid-Season Look
There are 209 Missouri and Kansas athletes playing DI WVB. Who and where are they? See every one of them here with all of their detailed statistics. And leader boards for seven major statistics.
There is now a podcast version of Playing On Sports. It is named “Where are They Now Wednesday” and it is co-produced by Missouri Sports Network. It covers the athletes who come from Missouri. If you would like to make this a reality for Kansas athletes, too, please contact me at PlayingOnSport@gmail.com. You can watch the latest episode here. Follow me on X here and you will get a notification when a new podcast is released.
This edition of Playing On Sports focuses on the Missouri and Kansas athletes who compete in Division I Volleyball. We here at Playing On Sports believe Women’s Volleyball is the strongest sport that comes out of these two states. We believe this is more fact than opinion. And by most any measure.

High Producing High Schools
We have seen what some of these athletes have accomplished and where they are competing. But, from where did they come? They come from 112 high schools from every corner and nook and cranny of these two states. Big schools like Shawnee Mission East and Francis Howell Central and also small schools like Bluestem and Advance. From a student populaton approximating 100, Advance has two grads competing in DI Women’s Volleyball. How many would your school need to have to match Advance on a per capita basis? Which schools have the most competing in Division I? Here are the schools with six or more competing at that level. Each of these could field an entire starting line-up with current DI grads.
St. James Academy - 10
St. Teresa’s Academy - 7
St. Thomas Aquinas - 7
Shawnee Mission East - 6
Lansing - 6
A Rarity
And here is an interesting fact. This occurred a year ago, but it is worth repeating. As a freshman out of Rock Bridge, Ella Swindle started throughout the season at the University of Texas. Ella became only the third freshman setter to lead her team to a National Division I title since the beginning of the sport.

The Spreadsheet
I have mention a few athletes above, and there are more below. But, there is much more. The spreadsheet attached at the bottom of this letter contains an incredible amount of detail on every one of the 209 Volleyball athletes from Missouri and Kansas. There are ten demographic details that will tell you who they are, what they do, where they came from, and where they are now. Even their prior college, if they have been through the Transfer Portal. There are also 29 statistics for each athlete. They are listed in high school order, and then by last name, for your ease at finding your favorite player. You can also check on your rival school! Not that we are competitie, or anything. Right? The statistics are as of October 6, and were provided by each college or university.
Errors of Commission? Omission?
I strive to be as accurate as possible. But, with so much date, and me being human, errors do occur. Please let me know of any correction that needs to be made. Simply email me at PlayingOnSports@gmail.com.
