It is never easy being a collegiate running back. It’s even more difficult if your team is going through a challenging year. That is where Jaylin Richardson (Schlagle/Concordia-St. Paul) finds himself. However, Jaylin is the bright spot with 70 rushing yards per game while averaging over 6 yards per carry. The sophomore has also added 194 receiving yards and a TD reception.
Travis Theis (Pratt/South Dakota) carried the ball 21 times for 108 yards and a TD as the Coyotes edged the No. 14 (FCS) ranked Southern Illinois Salukis. The former Kansas All-Classes Offensive Player of the Year leads his team in receptions in addition to his 76 rushing yards per game.
As a graduate student, Damon Bonds (Chaminade/Lake Forest) is closing out a very nice collegiate career. On Saturday, he rushed for 104 yards on 18 carries and caught a pass for 5 more yards. The 6 and 1 Foresters easily defeated Grinnell, 49 to 0. Damon has become known for his long runs. He has the second and fouth longest runs from scrimmage in school history, going 87 and 82 yards on those totes.
Shamar Griffith (Hannibal/Truman State) got his first 100 yard game as a Bulldog on Saturday as he led Truman State to a 42 to 7 win over William Jewell. His 18 carries for 117 yards included a first quarter 52 yard TD run that put the Bulldogs up 21 to 0. Shamar is now averaging over 72 rushing yards per game.
