Sometimes two career days aren’t even enough. Redshirt Junior Arkell Smith (Carthage/Central Missouri) caught 11 balls for 160 yards on Saturday. Redshirt Senior Xavier Jackson (Marquette/Central Missouri) caught 13 for 146 yards. Both are collegiate career highs for receiving yards in a game. Combined, that is 24 receptions for 306 yards. Great performances, but Central Missouri lost to Fort Hays State, 27 to 14.
Saturday will be a day true freshman Eli Stewart (Blue Springs/Drake) will remember. Not for Drake’s 48 to 14 loss to Davidson, but for his first collegiate TD reception. It was a 5 yard catch that capped off a 75 yard first quarter scoring drive to tie the score, 7 to 7.
Ronnie Bell (Park Hill/Michigan) had Saturday off, but is leading No. 4 Michigan with 61 receiving yards per game. He also leads the 7 and 0 Wolverines with 5 receptions per game.
Another Missouri high school receiver making it big in the Big 10 is Mitchell Tinsley (Lee’s Summit/Penn State). Mitchell is No. 10 Penn State’s second leading receiver with over 48 yards per game and is tied of the team lead with 4 TD receptions.
