What do you do when you had a career day with 35 completions in 50 attempts, 469 passing yards, and 3 touchdowns? You downgrade it from being a career day with a bigger performance the next week. This week Tionne Harris (Vianney/Quincy University) again connected on 35 passes, but this time for a school single game record 503 yards. We will watch each week as the junior climbs into the Quincy University record book.
After being out since an injury in the season opener, Brett Gabbert (Christian Brothers/Miami-Ohio) got back into action. Brett was 21 of 38 for 222 yards. His 9 yard run for the Redhawk’s only touchdown proved to not be enough to keep from falling to Western Michigan, 16 to 10. But, it is always good to get back after an injury.
One value of this newsletter is to be able to keep track of where athletes are competing. That task has only gotten more difficult with the transfer portal and the additional year granted by the NCAA following the Covid-19 disruption. After a stellar career at Rockhurst High School, Derek Green (Rockhurst/SMU) spent four years at SMU. After obtaining his degree there, he is now a graduate student and the starting quarterback for the Long Island University Sharks. He is averaging 180 passing yards a game while completing 64% of his passes.
Northwestern State may have held Paxton DeLaurent (Camdenton/SE Mo. State) well below his season passing yards average, but they couldn’t keep him from connecting on three touchdown passes. Paxton now has 17 TD passes this year with only 3 interceptions.
