Kansas to be Represented in the WNBA Draft?
The 2023 WNBA draft will be held on Monday. Could a Kansas high school grad be selected? ESPN thinks so.
The WNBA draft will be held on Monday at 6:00 central time. It can be seen on ESPN. M.A. Voepel has produced ESPN’s projections of those who will become rookies this next season. Those who watched the exciting NCAA WBB DI Tournament will see some familiar names. Why was South Carolina so daunting? Four of their starters are projected to go in the first thirteen picks. Champion LSU is projected to have the fifteenth pick while a runner-up Hawkeye is projected at No. 17.
The projected 22nd pick is Oklahoma shooting guard Taylor Robertson. Taylor is a 2018 McPherson High product.
The shooting guard showed early on that she can shoot. She is the all time leading McPherson Bullpup scorer with 1,912 points. She was named Miss Kansas Basketball and Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year after leading her team to the Kansas Class 4 State Championship. She made 322 three point shots in her high school career.
The following year, as a Sooner, Taylor set a school freshman record with 105 three point makes. That also led the country for freshmen. She increased her production her sophomore year with a Big 12 Conference record 131 3 point makes. She “only” made 86 treys her junior year. That was 6th in the nation. While hitting 43% from beyond the arc, she made 56 of 57 free throw attempts. Her 60 consecutive free throw makes is a Big 12 Conference record. Her 413 career threes is the most in Big 12 Conference history. She reached 400 threes in 102 games, the fastest in history nationally.
We may find out Monday night where Taylor will exchange NIL money for a professional contract in the WNBA.
