In Volleyball, Local Means Global
Once again Missouri and Kansas produces national class volleyball players disproportionate to the population. This time to compete to represent America in Croatia and Hungary.
The USA Volleyball National Team Development Program (NTDP) went looking coast to coast fo 19 ladies to be on the US Girls U19 World Championship roster. They looked from California to Michigan to Texas. Even little Bennington, Nebraska. And they also looked in Missouri and Kansas. Two of these outstanding volleyball players are local talent, one from each side of the Missouri/Kansas state line. Skylar Pierce and Abigail Mullen will go to Colorado Springs the last week of July. There they will train, learn, and compete for the 12 roster spots to travel to Osijek, Croatia and Szeged, Hungary in August for the 2023 FIVB U19 Girls World Championship. The other seven will be alternates should a roster spot open.
Who are these outstanding volleyball athletes?
Skylar Pierce - Olathe Northwest High School
Skylar is a 6’2” outside hitter. A year ago, she was an alternate for this team. Since that time, Skylar has committed to play volleyball at the University of Nebraska. But, the Big Red will have to wait for Skylar and her talents. Her senior year of high school comes before walking on to campus in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Abigail Mullen - Liberty High School
Abigail is a 6’3” opposite side. She was on the 2022 Girls U19 National Team and participated in the NTDP Training Series in 2021 and 2022. Abigail’s life timeline shows that she is equidistant from Middle School and College. Yes, she was a sophomore at Liberty High last season. The second half of her high school career commences this Fall.
Both of these ladies are outstanding volleyball athletes, regardless if they make the 12 lady roster, of if they stand ready as alternates. We look forward to the rest of their high school careers. But first, there is this thing called the US Girls U19 World Championship.
Stay tuned.
