For Our Volleyball Elite, 5 of 20 Becomes 2 of 12
USA Volleyball invited 5 local ladies to train for the selection to the 12 player roster for the NORCECA Pan American Cup. Two area ladies made the cut from 20 to 12.
Last month I reported that Missouri and Kansas produced five of the 20 ladies selected from coast to coast to train in Anaheim, California to become a member of the 12 player roster that will compete in Puerto Rico next week. To have five of the twenty from these two states is very disproportional to the population. Women’s Volleyball on the local level continues to arguably be the area’s most competitive sport on the national stage.
Two of those five were selected for the 12 player roster. The other three will serve as alternates. The two who will compete next week in Puerto Rico are:
Calissa Minatee (North Kansas City)
Calissa is a 6’0” middle blocker. Going forward, the Under Armor All-American will compete for the University of Minnesota Gophers.
Logan Parks (Blue Valley North)
Logan is a 5’11” Opposite/Setter. She is a sophomore with two more years of high school competition with the Blue Valley North Mustangs.
The three who are alternates for the team are:
Brooklyn DeLeye (Washburn Rural)
Brooklyn is a 6’2” outside hitter. She is a two time Kansas Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year. The MaxPreps.com First Team All-American has signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Kentucky.
Ryan McAleer (Blue Valley)
Ryan is a 5’5” libero. She will continue her volleyball career as a Purdue Boilermaker.
Reese Messer (St. James Academy)
Reese is a 5’11” setter. She is a sophomore with two more years of high school competition with the St. James Academy Thunder.
