Area Women in NCAA DI Basketball-The Names and Numbers
There are 123 area women competing in NCAA Division I Basketball. Some lead their team. Some lead their conference. And one leads the nation. Come see who these ladies are and what they are up to.
The non-conference portion of the season is largely gone. Those games count, but not as much as the conference games. Those early games serve lots of purposes. One is to evaluate this year’s talent. Who bubbles to the top. Who is getting it done as we head into the new year and the conference schedules. The push towards the postseason starts now. And it starts with many of these ladies.
I cover athletes from Missouri and Kansas who play anywhere in the NCAA. The two top scorers for The DI women make this interesting. Perfect balance. E’Lease Stafford (Lawrence/Missouri-Kansas City) is from Kansas and leads all scorers with 17.2 pts/game. Just behind E’Lease is Sanna’ St. Andre (Rock Bridge/Missouri-Kansas City) who is from Missouri and is scoring 16.6 pts/g. What school is benefiting from their scoring? Missouri-Kansas City which is walking distance from the state line. I will point out that the two home towns, Lawrence and Columbia, have a long history of competing against each other in collegiate basketball. But this time, those two are working together to lead their Kangaroos. The highest scoring freshman is Bella Fontleroy (Kickapoo/Baylor) who is scoring 10.8 pts/game for the Bears.
Shooting from long range is Sydney Wilson (Olathe East/Missouri State) who is making 56% of her shots from beyong the arc.
The game of basketball told us it was inevitable. Emilee Ebert (Frankfort/Kansas State) finally missed a free throw. She is now 34 for 35 from the stripe. That 97.14% leads her team, leads her conference, and is second in the nation. The highest rebounder is a Kangaroo, Dani Winslow (Olathe South/Missouri-Kansas City) with 11.1 boards per contest.
Emily Ryan (Central Plains/Iowa State) continues her dominance of dishing out passes. Her 7.00 assists per game is the 7th best in the nation. And her 94.44% from the free throw line is also 7th best in the nation. Sanna’ St. Andre, the second leading scorer also get it down on the other side of the court as she leads the area women with 2.55 steals per game.
And I promised you a national leader. Brooke Flowers (Metro Academic & Classical/St. Louis Univ.) leads the nation with 4.2 blocks per game. That is almost a full block per game more than the distant No. 2.
I will note that the Southeast Missouri State data was not available at press time. All of the other numbers are as of 12/21.
Here is the list, ranked by points per game:
