Area Ladies Playing DI Basketball
Basketball is just starting and so are we. There are over 750 men and women from Mo/Kan playing basketball in the NCAA. Here are over 100 ladies competing at the DI level.
It’s hoops season and we are ready. Another great season is before us. Who will lead in scoring? In rebounding? Who will be the Queen of Assists? Which freshmen will hit the ground running? We don’t know yet. That is why we watch the season and why you need to get your FREE subscription. It’s free and it will keep you up to date on local men and women competing in NCAA basketball.
First of all, let’s take a look at two Missourians who arrived at No. 18 Baylor. Aijha Blackwell (Cardinal Ritter/Baylor) spent her first three collegiate years at Missouri where she was a two time Second Team All SEC member. Transfereing is much easier these days and she went from being a Tiger to a Bear. She made quite an entrance as she started and scored 17 points in 24 minutes. Bella Fontleroy (Kickapoo/Baylor) arrived in Waco as a true freshman fresh off her Gatorade Missouri Player of the Year award a year ago. Bella got her 24 minutes of playing time coming off the bench in which she scored 17 points in her debut.
The sister act of Jaelyn Glenn (Bartow/Kansas State) and Brylee Glenn (Barstow/Kansas State) got their sophomore years started with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Add in Jaelyn’s 4 steals and it was quite a night for the former Knights.
Taylor Jameson (Wichita Hights/George Mason) got her sophomore campaign started with 15 points in their season opener.
Kennedy Brown (Derby/Duke) got the season opener start and responded with 6 fo 6 shooting from the field for a team high of 13 points.
Starting isn’t new for Taylor Robertson (McPherson/Oklahoma) as opening day of this, her final year was her 118th start (out of 119 games). The All-American Honorable Mention honoree is the Big 12 career 3-point record holder and is the leading active free thrower in the NCAA. Her season opener? She had 3 three’s on her way to 13 points.
And I have to mention Emily Ryan (Central Plains/Iowa State) as she was setting Big 12 assist records even before this, her junior season. Emily has 11 assists in the first two games of this season.
Perhaps I should create a space for “Making the Most of Your Time”. True freshman Ally Fitzgerald (Marquette/Colorado) got 2 minutes of playing time in her first collegiate game against New Mexico State. That is just enough time to get off a three point shot. Nothing but net. Three points for the freshman’s debut. Beatrice Culliton (St. Thomas Aquinas/Oklahoma) saw her collegiate career get started on opening night. Six rebounds in only 8 minutes of playing time. She also had time to take two shots, making one.
Here are all 123 Mo/Kan grads competing in NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball.
